There is an additional Stable Cottage for families, with three guest rooms, three bathrooms, a family lounge area, a TV room and a private dining area. Designed in the old Cape-Dutch style of years past, the suites each offer a sitting room, fireplace and enormous bathroom with a Victorian bathtub.
Grand, yet welcoming, the lodge provides a myriad of creature comforts, including a spa, swimming pool and stable of horses for exploring the coffee plantations and countryside. WiFi is available in all public areas, and there is a cinema, billiards room, laundry service and a children’s menu. Mineral water is complimentary from the bar and restaurant and in all guest rooms.
Diversions are plentiful, including a bush lunch in a private campsite area of the Ngorongoro Crater away from the crowds (advanced booking required); visits to Lake Manyara National Park, famed for its flamingos, and Olduvai Gorge; game drives; horseback riding; coffee tours of the 1,500-acre Arabica estate; guided nature walks; spa treatments; biking; and swimming. Children are equally entertained with pony riding, kid-centric coffee tours, “L’il Bee” massage treatments, local farm visits, guided nature walks, croquet and more. Of course, wildlife takes center stage here, with Ngorongoro boasting one of the highest densities of wildlife in Africa, including elephants, buffalo, black rhinos, hyena, zebra and more. Lake Manyara is home to bushbuck, blue monkeys, antelopes, cheetahs, hippos and flamingos among its dense forest, open grassland, soda lake wetlands and acacia woodlands.
Dining is arranged on an individual basis and is always flexible. Breakfast and lunch are served from an à la carte menu, while dinner is a five-course table d’hôte menu. Guests may choose to dine in the formal dining room, conservatory or in their room. Game drives include picnic breakfasts and lunches. A children’s menu is available.
